The first site I found that I liked was yoyoing.com, it’s gone now but it helped me see there was depth to this hobby. There were more people playing and making up tricks and uploading them to the internet for others to see an learn. This was back in the dialup days, but when you’re a kid dying to learn another trick you’ll wait hours to watch a 12 second clip the size of postage stamp.

After that I joined a few forums like:
—YoYoExpert.com Forum: http://yoyoexpert.com/forum
—TheYo Forum: http://theyo.com/yoyo/forum.php

Then a few years late as social networks started to grow and yo-yoers migrated to them, I found a few facebook groups:
—Trick Circle group for trick creators: https://www.facebook.com/groups/29301…
—The General YoYoing group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/YoYoing/
—The YoYo BST & Talk: https://www.facebook.com/groups/yoyoBST/
—Solid up and coming group with a lot of activity, National Recreational Yo-Yo Association: https://www.facebook.com/groups/natio…
— YoYo Ireland (Suggested by Chris Hutchinson): https://www.facebook.com/groups/45827…
— British Yo-Yo Association (Suggested by Chris Hutchinson): https://www.facebook.com/groups/Briti…

I found a few popular yo-yoers who use twitter and paid attention to who was following them:
